A meditative folk sound enamors on Impromptu Session 1, a collaborative album from the Polish duo of Piotr and Kris. An easy-flowing improvisation with emphasis on piano and guitar makes for an accessible listening experience, one that can prompt introspection, whether amidst a calming snowfall or while frolicking amongst the sun’s shining rays.
“Myst and light” opens the album with a gentle folk glow. Chiming piano gracefully lingers in the background, as warming acoustics assemble an inviting allure. “Flight of the Crane” follows with similarly lush qualities, this time with an opening emphasis on trickling piano. Serene guitar infusions ease in gradually, further emphasizing the project’s knack for steadily unfolding structural engrossment. The sentimental, nostalgic-feeling “Winding down” is another success in the soft folk vein.
“Unvoiced” is another standout, hypnotizing with its gently caressing acoustics. The closing sequence from “In Time” to “Dusk” furthers the nocturnal, reflective qualities apparent through much of the second half, intertwining piano and guitar for a final send-off that’s enjoyably representative of the melodic warmness throughout Impromptu Session 1.
