Charleston-based quintet Brave Baby impress with a melodic rock appeal on two new singles. “First Time Home Buyer” weaves heady synth tones and bursting guitars alongside ruminations on new-found home ownership, while “Difficulture” infuses brassy blaring and thickly reveberating bass bounces.
“First Time Home Buyer” evolves with steady engrossment, exuding inner contemplations about lofty decisions into a bass-y briskness at the one-minute turn. “This song is about taking the plunge of home ownership into a new part of town when you’re not ready to leave your bubble but you do it for the look on your partner’s face,” the group says. “Difficulture” embraces an individualist ethos lyrically, with the mid-point stirring in particular upon the “culture is a product,” break, supplemented sharply with synths, brass, and rhythmic inclinations. These are two surefire successes from Brave Baby.
