Strutting a heady electronic sound that’s future-thinking in both its synth-forward aesthetic and conceptual themes, the INFINITE EP is the latest from ALTR∞, a project based in Dusseldorf, Germany. Their first EP came in the beginning of 2023, and now their second EP finishes it off. Tantalizing vocals, inventive synth work, and dynamic grooves — with African and Latin inspiration — lead a captivating sound, fondly reminiscent in aesthetic to The Knife.
ALTR∞ explain: “This EP is meant to make people feel free, dance and release all worries and troubles! We wanted to try new things, while exploring a more dancefloor-oriented sound, while still sticking to our own style.”
“I Saw The Future” opens the EP with immersive enthrallment. Thumping percussion and vocal snippets coalesce for ample intrigue, as an eerie vocal lead emerges within the thickly reveberating soundscape. A more subtle, pit-pattering percussive element past the three-minute turn combines with chilly vocals for a haunting allure. Another highlight comes in “Hurricane,” whose range from buzzing synths to tropical-friendly effervescence is exemplary of the project’s dynamic tonal appeal.
The EP’s title track concludes this release strongly, representing “the fluidity of the Hive Mind and the infinite flow of consciousness” alongside otherworldly synth tones and sporadic rhythmic momentum. The release as a whole is a firm showcase of the project’s impressive atmospheric strengths and knack for inventive structural pursuits.
