The new track from Ultra Contra, “Walk The Terminal” captivates in its lush yet emotional soundscape, meshing dream-pop and shoegaze. The Pacific Northwest-based artist reveals a heady sound, swelling from dreamy introspection to elements of guitar-forward psychedelia in the second half.
Thumping bass emerges gently, as sporadic synth pulses and gentle percussion weave in. Chilled-out keys and dreamy vocals assemble thereafter, capturing “another time and place of being alone.” The “walked the terminal,” line is followed by an added glistening effervescence, with brassy flourishes enthralling thereafter alongside the emotive vocals. Aesthetically, I’m fondly reminded of Destroyer’s Kaputt here. Guitar additions in the second half lend a textured, shoegaze-y component. “Walk The Terminal” is a riveting success from Ultra Contra.
