The lushly engaging “What If, Could Be” is the latest success from teasea, the Brooklyn-based project of multi-instrumentalist Tom Criblez. Per Criblez, the track serves as “a wake up call to us humans and a reminder of how much we can lift each others spirits in more ways than we realize.”
“It was the last track written for the upcoming album and came out of an idea I had while showering and trying to manifest a strong final track to complete the record,” he continues. “Most of the parts are 1 take to evoke a sense of raw liveliness and all tracked in my home studio in Brooklyn.”
Sitting comfortably between a serene dream-pop and soaring rock realm, “What If, Could Be” enamors in its blissfully melodic production, whose textural pull reminds fondly of Wild Nothing. Hazy synths and steady percussion is accompanied by twangy guitar fragments, assuming a steadier role as the vocals begin to emerge. Their calming presence builds into a spirited mid-point, with lingering guitar tones and a bass-y resonance taking hold prior to the three-minute turn. “What If, Could Be” is a magnetic success from teasea.
