“Thank You” is a hypnotic sonic journey full of gratitude, courtesy of the project Curving Tooth. The Baltimore-based queer duo comprises Liz Downing and Greg Hatem; the track was originally written by Downing in 1985, and now surfaces alongside a video, shot by Garrett Stralnic. Introspective, thought-provoking lyrics address how even a simple rock can eventually “play as a child in the warm sunshine,” — with the video’s psychedelic features bolstering that philosophical imagery.
A spellbinding, meditative opening builds with hypnotic immersion. Spacious chimes accompany vocals that thank fellow partners in existence — specifically, everyday objects like a skillet, stove, and table. The thoughtful appreciation has conceptual shades of tsukumogami. “Everything has got its spirit,” the vocals let out as further textural effervescence emerges, driving into a twinkling art-pop soundscape with rhythmic underlying as “Thank You” reaches its warming conclusion.
