Bruce James – “Recycled Plastic”

//

Nostalgic synths and soaring guitars combine for an artful pop character on “Recycled Plastic,” the newest single from Bruce James, the project of Michael Bartlett. Originally from Washington, DC and presently based in Raleigh, NC, the artist presents a riveting, climactic charm within “Recycled Plastic,” which follows up singles from earlier this year in “Middle Class Alcoholic” and “All the Weight.”

“Recycled Plastic” ushers in gentle synth flutters and steady percussion, the latter assuming a clap-laden enthusiasm as the synths assume a more upfront presence amidst a bass-y reflection. A pitch-altering vocal presence lends to the enjoyable mystique, with xylophone-like trickles emerging enjoyably prior to the one-minute turn. Thereafter, a triumphant guitar line takes hold. Magnetic, brass-forward components appear in a ravishing second half, presenting a stylish engrossment into the satiating finale. “Recycled Plastic” is a firm success from Bruce James.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
