The Season Of Evil EP is a high-intensity rock success from A.N.J.A., a German-born and Belfast-based artist. EP track “Stimulation” caught our ears in September with its invigorating rock sound, and the rest of the EP continues the high-quality output on display there.
The EP’s title track kicks off in commanding force. Sweltering guitar distortion complements a shout-y vocal passion; the punk-ready vigor is palpable. The steady guitar buzz traverses into the “it’s the season of evil,” debonair vocal showcase, reminding of QotSA in its raucously delectable outpouring. A moody guitar-fronted crawl approaches the three-minute mark, adding further stylish flair to a track that compels in its tonally steady yet eerily captivating success.
More laid-back, bluesy guitars kick off the ensuing “Vacuous Lipstick Blues,” which then blasts off into a warming dose of distortion. Multiple vocal layers strut a suave quality between the rises in distortion, crafting ample momentum into the “take me away,” emotive pleas. The howling ferocity and grimy distortion within “Midnight Raid” make for another consuming success, while finale “Attitude Adjustment Programe” blends bluesy rock distortion with punk-ready exultation. The Season Of Evil marks another rockin’ succes from A.N.J.A..
