Portland (OR)-based act Soursoup deliver a blissfully melodic rock sound, steeped in a balance of hazy soundscapes and hooky immediacy. The brother-sister duo released The Showdown EP last month, featuring standouts like “The Good Stuff” and “Recoil.”
“The Good Stuff” is precisely that. Wordless vocal soaring and twangy, warm guitars drive into catching melodic sequences. Energetic pulses at the mid-point add an invigorating charm. The lush guitar-pop inclinations remind fondly of Kero Kero Bonito. Meanwhile, “Recoil” casts a dreamier initial spell, before traversing into bass-heavy intensity approaching the one-minute turn; the serene vocals mingle with melodically addictive appeal throughout both these gems.
