Norrisette – “Imaginary Situations”

/

A new track from UK artist Norrisette, “Imaginary Situations” is a gripping audible journey, unfolding steadily with an array of eerie twinkling, calming synth pad shimmers, and an eventual intertwining of wordless vocal beauty and percussive pulses. The track represents a short mixdown from the artist’s original DJ set at Manchester International Festival in July, opening for Anna Meredith at the Depot Mayfield.

Crafted entirely at home by Norisette and premiered at the festival, “Imaginary Situations” was crafted with the initial intent of “an experimental chillout single,” following the EP release of Weird Party earlier this year. An otherworldly, high-pitched intrigue develops from the get-go, expanding into ghostly keys that haunt alongside crackling effects and hints of percussion. Backing string-laden resonance sporadically bolsters the soundscape, which arrives into a breathtaking final minute; the prominence of vocals and percussion excel here, traversing into a beautiful piano-fronted conclusion.

The track releases alongside “Blue,” described as “a love song”:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
