Middle Priest – “Fingernail”

/

Los Angeles-based rockers Middle Priest infuse introspective acoustics and rousing rock rises alike on the gripping new single “Fingernail,” the second single from their upcoming debut EP, I thought that I was far away. Led by the songwriting of North Carolina native Colson Dorafshar, Middle Priest show a gripping knack for dynamic structural unfolding with “Fingernail.”

The apt “awake another day,” beginnings are complemented by understated acoustics, accompanying the experience of losing a fingernail and its ensuing clean-up — figurative and poetic in its expressions of starting anew, pushed further by revitalizing doses of bursting guitar. “I lie awake most nights,” the vocals let out during the rock-forward rises, joined by personal reminiscing like “I saw my mother die at 17.” “Fingernail” is a rousing success that has us firmly anticipating the band’s upcoming EP.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
