Intertwining late-night electronica and debonair hip-hop, “Slow it Down” is a consuming new single from Jamcie. The Exeter, UK-based rapper and songwriter teams up with producer Justin Novak on this delight, achieving in their aim to blend hip-hop and house music. They write: “Having made hiphop and lofi rap together, we decided to experiment with one of our favourite genres, UK Garage and ended up creating our new sound for Jamcie.”
Life feels like a constant bustle, filled with obligations and pressures to make ends meet. “Slow it Down” captures that sentiment, amidst a soothing reassurance to slow down and take it easy from time to time — focusing on the good things, and all that one has accomplished. The song’s creative process proves reflective of such; the duo re-acquainted whilst making the track, cooking meals for each other and having a quality time all-around.
The soulful vocal sample references taking a weight off one’s shoulders, as Jamcie delivers a suave hip-hop vocal feeling referencing the track title. “Life’s a gamble with high stakes — place your bets, fam, why wait?” he lets out, encouraging to not let fears get in the way of new experiences. The steady percussive backing and lush keys combine with these dual vocal elements for an infectious, thematically poignant success throughout.
