Oakland-based singer/songwriter Gaia Calista presents a stirring psych-friendly meshing of rock and folk on the single “Soul Contract,” which precedes an upcoming album, out next month. Mellow keys and swampy guitars complement a wordless croon to start, with the lead vocals casting a retrospective glow in its “when we were young,” lyrical beginnings.
A throwback to being 18 and first kisses drives into the rousing “I sold my heart away,” hook, complemented by a twangy guitar emphasis. “Soul Contract” captures the feeling of young love, and its enduring effects, in captivating form.
The artist elaborates on the track’s themes, and what lies ahead:
“I worked on this song for a whole year and wrote it hearing the melody in a half asleep dream state. It is a song about young love and the hold it can have on you forever. It is a song inspired by my early childhood 90’s rock influences. The song is a spiritual song and is meant to transport you. I am releasing a music video for it that was filmed in the desert, and my upcoming record as well in October. I also have a band I am playing live shows with and performing all my new music in LA.”
