YUKE – “Small Rotations”

/

The third single from London-based act YUKE, “Small Rotations” is an exuberant, theatrical success. The quartet concoct a striking sound with climactic structural evolution, rising from a vocal-led minimalism into a fierce, bouncy expanse. Bright Wurlitzer and charismatic guitar lines alike emerge with a fun sense of grandiosity, culminating in a segment approaching the three-minute turn with a thrilling rock nostalgia, showing shades of Queen.

“Small Rotations” is exemplary of YUKE’s knack for rousing build-ups, reflecting the “as this world keeps spinning ’round,” observation with its steady evolution. “Let their hair just grow down,” the vocals continue during the verses, joined thereafter by Wurlitzer into the “here it comes,” budding refrain. The ensuing, prancing hook retains a memorable spirit throughout the track’s production, brimming with enthusiasm and melodic energy.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
