Rilo Wye – “Cold Front”

/

Engaging with breezy guitars and a hazily reflective composure, “Cold Front” is a suavely melodic single from Rilo Wye, the project of Los Angeles-based artist Riley Sieverts.

The opening plays with an understated intrigue. Debonair vocals and sludgy bass-fronted appeal remark “you’re so cool in your 20s,” with an easy-breezy emotion. “You came in and swept away,” they continue, with wind-like analogies representing the fleeting impact of temporary relationships.

Per the artist: “It’s about a short lived relationship between two individuals that bonded over their troubling and toxic lifestyle. A deep connection and desire comes from the narrator, though knowing the relationship will only bring with it destruction.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
