Linuss – “Let’s Go Swimming”

/

“Let’s Go Swimming” is the latest showing from Los Angeles-based artist Linuss, revealing another track from his upcoming full-length. “Let’s go to the beach,” its hooky chorus exudes, as glistening plucks and yearning vocal elongation combine for an effervescent, summer-set magic. Spacey synths build back into the caressing chorus, with childhood reminiscing and lush guitar strums building momentum into a melodic reprisal to the beach-beckoning escapades. This is another stellar showing from Linuss.

Linuss elaborates on the track’s creative process:

“This song was initially inspired by the mathy 6/8 drum groove you hear on “Tenderness” by Jay Som. After developing the drum groove, I wanted the synths and guitar to feel like the sun, melting your brain into the sand on a hot afternoon. So I had to just soak everything in drippy reverb and slow vibrato. I did everything I could to make it feel like beachy surf pop and like an 8-bit retro video game adventure at the same time.”

“I can’t remember exactly how the lyrics came about, but in retrospect it seems inspired by a relationship I had where I never felt I was fun or exciting enough to maintain this person’s affection. On the surface, it’s about calling up this former girlfriend to propose a beach day for old time’s sake, but ultimately losing my composure by the end of the call. Beneath the story layer, it’s about exploring what went wrong and why I was left behind in the first place.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
