A hooky pop success with strong inspirational lyrics, “DREAMS.” is a standout from Jason King, a New York-born musician, producer, dancer, and comedian now based in San Francisco. “I will not let you let them die,” King sings during the track’s mid-point, referring to the fragile yet important role of dreams and aspirations in one’s life. “DREAMS.” enamors in its portrayal of perseverance amidst a fantastic pop production melding piano, dreamy wordless backing vocals, and a heady rhythmic accompaniment.
“”DREAMS.” is a song written at one of the lowest points in my life,” King explains. “At the time, I had not given up on my vision (or dream), but my actions and my perception of myself seemed to demonstrate the opposite. I wrote this song as a way to uplift and encourage myself and dismiss the shackles of my own negativity.”
The continued emphasis on these sentiments — “I want to keep my dreams alive, I want to feel like I’m living in my paradise,” — prove consistently stirring, traversing from hazy piano-led effervescence into a rock-friendly bridge with pop-punk appeal. “DREAMS.” is easy to get stuck on replay.
