San Diego-based artist Heather Nation engrosses with a woozy, soulful intrigue throughout new single “Lucid Dreaming.” Airy, expressive vocals and an eclectic stylistic grasp results in a riveting, creative sound, reminiscent at points to Erykah Badu and Little Dragon. The project features the songwriting of Heather Nation — also on vocals and guitar — in addition to the work of Omar Lopez, who lends production, composing, arrangement, and instrumentation talents.
“In this moment, when it all comes together,” the climactic vocals kick into percussive trickling, signaling an emphasis on the caressing “all comes together,” vocal backing. “We’re floating in the ether,” they continue, furthering the intoxicating soundscape. A bass-heavy emphasis rounds the two-minute turn with intrigue, culminating in a gorgeous piano-laden lushness a minute thereafter in the final “all comes together,” refrain. A tender guitar solo drives into the track’s wholly fulfilling conclusion; this is a captivating, stylish production with sincere emotional outpouring.
