Brooklyn-based trio Anna Sun craft a moody rock intrigue on new single “Do What You Have To,” emitting a post-breakup stirring alongside a sound steeped in post-punk and alt-rock fervency. The former style emits a nostalgic lingering to start amidst vocals pushing to move on, culminating in the compelling “in the night, I try to find you,” escalation. “I’m angry with you too,” the vocals remind amidst the yearning, engrossingly emphasizing the complexities involved in a fractured relationship.
Vocalist/guitarist Sam Aneson provides some background on the track: “I wrote this song based off a jam I did with my then boyfriend. After he left me, I turned it into a song about how I had no choice but to let him follow his heart, even though it left me in pieces.”
