Kyoto Lo-Fi – “Nico”

/

Dreamy synths and soaring guitar lines intertwine engrossingly throughout “Nico,” a new single from Kyoto Lo-Fi, a Dallas-based project led by Nico Caruso. “The song lyrically is a conversation with myself and about myself, dealing with the uncontrollable self hatred and imposter syndrome I’ve had (and maybe a lot of people have?) throughout my life,” Caruso explains. “It’s named “Nico” after me.”

“Isn’t it lovely?” the vocals open gently alongside hazy synths, growing with momentum into charismatic guitar-driven emotion. The bouncy, glistening keys approaching the two-minute turn combines with emotive vocals for an atmospheric pop allure. Jangly guitars flicker inward into the “could you tell me if I changed?” vocal questioning. “Nico” is a yearning, memorable showing from Kyoto Lo-Fi.

The project has impressed previously with tracks like “Godot” and “Flowering Boulder.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
