The standout debut single from Montreal-based project clay pigeon, “Come Down” delivers a commanding sound with a ’90s alt-rock angst and nostalgia. Led by singer and guitarist James Clayton, clay pigeon recently recorded their debut album at Hotel2Tango alongside Howard Bilerman and Shae Brossard (Arcade Fire, Leif Vollebekk, The Weather Station). Look for its release later this year, preceded by singles like “Come Down.”
“Are you ready to come down?” Clayton asks amidst moody guitar layers; a lush acoustical backing complements a steady distortion-laden whirring. The melodic, familiar rock attitude reminds fondly of Alex G’s work. The “same smile every morning,” sequence presents a more subdued guitar rumbling, gearing up into roaring guitar lines with seamless enticement. “Come Down” is a thoroughly engrossing rock showing from clay pigeon.
