Out today from London-based band DAAY, the exuberantly infectious single “Top Heavy” presents a swirling assortment of colorful trumpets, charismatic vocals, and dynamic guitar tones. “Stay with me somewhere in the middle,” the vocals call out at one point. “Take my hand I can spin you around.” The enticement upon this offer is palpable, as the track plays like a psychedelic blast through a diverse, punchy soundscape with energetic art-rock allure.
Described by the band as “about losing balance when life gets too heavy and the inevitable plummet to the floor, but always rising back up from the ashes,” “Top Heavy” comes via their upcoming EP, Cosmic Gossip. The initial bass-led peppiness and sporadic brass intertwining exude a sort of Madness-esque One Step Beyond… energy. “Face down, to the ground,” the vocals exclaim, following that up with a “I get up,” ardency, showing shades of Talking Heads. “Top Heavy” is a success bursting with creative charisma.
