Roofers Union – “Symbiote Song”

///

“Symbiote Song” unfolds with a striking grandiosity, swelling from a folk-minded blend of piano and acoustics into an invigorating display of expressive strings and vocal outpouring. The track marks the latest from New York-based act Roofers Union, via the Fogdancing / Symbiote Song release.

“There is a problem with the future,” the vocals admit. “There is a voice that’s getting louder.” The sense of foreboding proves chilling into the rousing mid-section, where soaring strings and escalating vocals embrace a more chamber-pop outpouring. The strings past the four-minute mark are especially riveting, driving delicately into the more ballad-ready conclusion. “Symbiote Song” is a stirring display of production, with its enjoyably dramatic build.

Roofers Union says: “This song is about the end of a relationship – bittersweet, dynamic, and surreal. We wanted to make a song that was these things too.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
