GLOB – “Gaffer Tape”

/

A bright and melodic rocker, “Gaffer Tape” is an engaging new single from GLOB, a band from Naarm/Melbourne. Marking the act’s sophomore release, “Gaffer Tape” is described as “a reflection on change, impermanence, acceptance and ultimately, moving on.”

Summery guitar twangs exude an effervescent charm to start. A more understated shift assumes prominence as the suave vocals let out “ain’t it strange how things change,” alongside a thumping bass and gentle guitars. The reprisal of those twangy guitars hits with replay-inducing engrossment, as the contrasting tones between the cool verses and chipper hook crafts a continuous sense of momentum throughout.

The vocal accompaniment to these bright twangs, after the two-minute turn, plays with a fun vigor. Playful synths emerge cohesively thereafter into the rousing conclusion. “Gaffer Tape” is an exciting one from GLOB.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
