“Stop Waking The Sun” is a soaring, epic psych-rock single from UK act Excellent Skeleton. Melding title-touting vocal layers stir amidst patient guitar strums, setting a climactic introduction. Roaring guitar ferocity envelops thereafter, not letting up for the blissful vocal emergence that reminds fondly of Spiritualized. “Feeling kind of sad about it,” they let out with a gripping nonchalance, the laid-back vocal charm sharply contrasted by invigorating, oozing guitar-led emotion.
At nearly 10 minutes long, it’s not surprise that the track lifts off into some heady waters after the appetizing, psych-rock splendor initially shown. The guitar tones caress with a surrounding embrace as the vocals chant with distant, meditative pull in the final couple minutes. “Stop Waking The Sun” is a psych-rock tour-de-force that has me anticipating what’s next from Excellent Skeleton.
