Die Softly – “Shade”

//

“Shade” is a memorable synth-pop cut from Die Softly, the project of Seattle-based artist Leah Rosen. Thick synth buzzing complements a lush vocal entrancement to start, excelling into a chorus that fully hooks with its effervescent synth additions and soaring vocal rise.

“I don’t think you’re cool now,” Rosen sings into this dreamy, replay-inducing moment; a breezy ’80s adoration is enjoyably apparent. A higher-pitched vocal push combines with more understated synths for an intriguing lead-in to the three-minute turn, culminating in another delectable hooky reprise. “Shade” is a thorough success from Rosen, whose previous projects include Midheaven (formerly known as Jigsaw Puzzle Glue), Lux, and Tender Bats.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
