Canadian act Borealis Palace delivers an impassioned, delicately evolving sound on “Stares.” Sporadic guitar glistening and somber string-laden deepness complements a stirring vocal lead throughout, carrying with a quivering composure as a percussive element becomes more prominent. The more guitar-fronted “it was my destiny,” vocal clarity — approaching the final minute — plays with spine-chilling qualities. There’s not much known about the project, and “Stares” appears to be the debut single, and it certainly succeeds.
