“Physical Energy” is a standout psych-rock single from Phase Materia, a band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Formed by brothers Connor and Austin Smith, the project kickstarted in the spring of 2019. With “Physical Energy,” they firmly stand out with a harmoniously welcoming psychedelic sound, enamoring throughout.
Dazed vocals and mystique-filled guitar lines enter immediately, with lyrics referencing revivals, polarities, and mind vibrations “through eternity.” The title-bearing rise is gorgeous; the vocals exude a sweetly melodic composure with a hazy power-pop edge alongside the evident psychedelia, sounding like a tripped-out Matthew Sweet, in the best way possible. The lush verses and replay-inducing chorus assemble for a blissful track from Phase Materia.
