UK duo lazy hunter preview their upcoming debut album with the riveting single “I Want to Save the World but I Don’t Know How.” Formed in 2019 by brothers Chris and Pete Gibson, lazy hunter arose from a desire to break free from the rules often constraining potential commercial success. While their previous bands found success with national radio spots and TV placement, there remained a desire to form a band “with no rules whatsoever.” Two EPs followed in 2021, with 2022 seeing the mini-album Fast Track to the Peach Blossom Spring.

Contemplative guitar twangs open the track and escalate steadily from there. Punchy percussion grows into a suave vocal presence, with the “don’t wanna hear it,” vocal refrain building momentum into the exhilarating chorus. A haunting vocal croon and added guitar line enamor during this rise, escalating into firm rock-forward territory before settling back into the crisp jangle of the verses. A frenzied assortment of guitar distortion and chaotic synths merge past the three-minute mark for further ardent success, thereafter launching into a heavy, blistering enthusiasm that carries the track into a satiating, full-bodied finale.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
