An evolving success spanning from folk-laden longing to twangy escalations, “Smoke Signals” is a stirring new single from Davoli, a singer/songwriter from Nottingham, England. The release precedes his upcoming album Notes For A New Year, anticipated to release in late 2023.
The opening lyrics convey a clear yearning: “It’s easier to contact the dead than getting hold of you.” An answer-seeking plea drives into ringing guitar jangles and a multi-layered vocal suaveness, further enhanced by shimmering guitar frolicking. “I just can’t find the answers, everything’s out of time,” the vocals admit, commiserating over lost time and crumbling hopes. The guitar jangles and more classic-rock lead intertwine as the vocals fade, prior to a satisfyingly melodic finale.
