Alec Berlin – “LaNoise”

/

Breezy guitar twangs lead on the delightful “LaNoise,” a new single from Brooklyn-based artist Alec Berlin. Taking inspiration from the grooving style of producer Daniel Lanois, as the title pays tribute to, “LaNoise” enamors with a laid-back sound, fit for sliding into the weekend with. The track comes via Berlin’s fourth album, Space Punk and Other Junk, which emphasizes the artist’s knack for melodically approachable songs that also embrace impressive guitar playing.

Space Punk and Other Junk took inspiration from a series of dreams Berlin had, in which he was listening to “a long-lost hit song that no one had ever heard before.” Berlin continued his songwriting, alongside live gigs in NYC, to gradually hone the material — eventually recording the tracks with his band at Williamsburg’s Grand Street Recording.

The Cleveland native, now based in NYC, certainly has me anticipating Space Punk and Other Junk with the quality shown on “LaNoise.” The track’s twangy, carefree disposition drives along pleasantly, with higher-pitched escalations like at 01:30 adding momentum between the warming twangs. “LaNoise” is a comforting, melodic success from Alec Berlin.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
