Showcasing a dreamy pop captivation, recent singles “Ribbon” and “Here” precede the upcoming EP from Los Angeles-based Sarah Grace White. Her debut EP, Are You Here This Time, releases on February 3rd, and is produced with Jorge Balbi (Sharon Van Etten).

White describes “Ribbon” as “about forgiveness, support, and a memorable drive.” Steady percussion and reflective piano tones complement an understated vocal presence, gradually accompanied by a buzzing synth warmness and caressing guitar strums. “Please don’t lose your faith in me,” White lets out during the heartrending chorus, fully resonating with a spacey synth touch backing. “Ribbon” excels with a contemplatively serene dream-pop pull.

Releasing earlier this month, “Here” casts a darker intrigue with more upfront synths and subtle percussion. The textural, patient synth-pop developments are accompanied by glistening guitars and warbled synth additions in the second half, exceling in atmosphere and melodic construction. “Ribbon” and “Here” are thorough successes that have me firmly anticipating White’s coming EP.

Look out for Are You Here This Time on Friday.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
