Phantom Pink – “SoHo (Leave Me Alone)”

//

“SoHo (Leave Me Alone)” is a hooky new single from Phantom Pink, the Portland, OR-based project of Brayton Walls. Twinkling guitar work and vibrant vocals — ranging from the verses’ suaveness to the hook’s confident intensity — enamor throughout with replay-inducing appeal.

The punchy “don’t wanna be that guy,” sequence exudes a consuming suaveness, with the ensuing “on vacation,” line amplified by sharply melodic glistening. The track’s enthusiastic, catchy production excels — from the lush shimmering of the bouncy hook, to the peppy rock of the book-ends.

Walls describes the track as “about not wanting to let fame get the best of you, whilst the party rages on around you. At its core, it’s a song about becoming what you fear most, yet still yearning for it. Inevitable and desired destruction.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
