Basement Party – “Everything’s the Same”

/

Austin-based band Basement Party impress on their new track “Everything’s the Same,” successfully meshing alt-rock nostalgia with atmospheric synth-laden textures.

Understated vocals and chugging percussion complement steady guitar pulses to start, building into a satiating title-touting chorus. Here, an added backing synth-led effervescence complements a lush vocal segment — “everything’s the same as before,” — as soaring guitar lines emerge.

“Nothing’s out of place, but everything’s the same as before,” the vocals launch into another chorus thereafter, with chirpy synths complementing after the “we’ll never be those kids again,” acknowledgement. Wearing nostalgia on its sleeve in enjoyable form, both stylistically and lyrically, “Everything’s the Same” is a memorable single from the rising Basement Party. Formed in the past year, the act shows ample promise in its balancing of throwback familiarity with modern production.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
