Noah Gönci – “Things Are Not the Same”

/

Emphasizing the pain of loss, “Things Are Not the Same” is a new track from Brooklyn-based artist Noah Gönci. He describes the release as “about how going back to my hometown after the death of my father has been eerie and unsettling. It’s about a very sad nostalgia that lingers in the back of your mind.”

A steady, ’90s-tinged nostalgia is apparent in the thickly reverberating chord progression. A cohesive incorporation of twinkling keys/synths glides into lusher acoustics and the resonating “house feels so strange,” vocal outpouring. Further entrancing is the playful, laid-back guitar progression approaching the two-minute mark. “Things Are Not the Same” is a stellar, emotive success from Noah Gönci — with the “house feels so strange,” and “emptiness fills my lungs,” lines capturing the heartache and lingering nature of loss.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
