“Kitchen” is a a dynamic, captivating jam from Toebow. A Brooklyn-born project comprising active members in the NYC scene (having had members in common with BOBBY, Zula, Dirty Projectors, and others), Toebow showcase a delightfully unpredictable sound that balances melodic immediacy with daring structural twists and expansive rhythms.
The band describe the track as “a triumphant groover about getting through your worst times and coming out on top. The song touches on issues surrounding over-indulgence, substance consumption, and getting past unhealthy and toxic periods of one’s life.”
Fleeting synth flourishes and twangy guitars complement a diverse vocal lead, alternating from suave contemplations to a wordless enthusiastic whimsy. The aforementioned brightness emerges around the one-minute mark, alongside reflective guitars and lush synths. A beautifully psych-induced twist, about 30 seconds thereafter, devastates with emotively melodic allure. “Kitchen” wastes no time showcasing the band’s lively, catching songwriting and high level of musicianship.
