Dynamic synth-pop duo Songs for Sabotage impress with their latest single “Shadow,” released on November 10th. With an echoing hall of distillery and mystery amidst a breezy accessibility, the Los Angeles-based pair create a hauntingly beautiful dreamscape of minimalist artistry.
Do not be fooled by the initial black-and-white aesthetic of the music video, in regards to depth; the context expands considerably from the initial familiarity, just as the song’s hooky structure does. By using a less-is-more approach, the duo blends a simplistic grunge-filled edge with the fresh and clean sound of ’80s synth-pop.
“Shadow” combines the darkness of rock and grunge with the hysteria of a chromatic ’80s rave culture, creating a mighty yet minimalist jungle of haze and drama that meshes together, bringing forth a hybrid of light and dark with “Shadow,” which leads us into the end of the night.
“Shadow” reminds us that we can endure nostalgia and modern artistry in an empty and echoing white box. The duo plan to release their second album in 2023.
