John Hubcap – “Birdsong”

/

Montreal-based rockers John Hubcap unveil a fun and infectious sound on new single “Bird Song.” The track takes inspiration from the “inability to get a good night’s rest and still being awake when the birds start chirping,” — reflected in the hooky “I’m not ready for the birds sequence.”

Charismatic guitar-laden escalation crafts a fervent appeal from the get-go. Exhilarating guitar tones give way to a suave vocal presence, with some prog-rock tonal appeal. Playing seamlessly amidst a swift bass line, the vocals swell infectiously into further guitar wah-wahs and the resonating central hook.

The track’s spontaneous, natural feeling makes sense, considering the band’s free-form jamming gave way to the final result. A grooving guitar progression became fitted alongside a funk-tinged bass line, with wah-wah-friendly guitar infusions and hip-hop-inspired percussion adding further to the catchy sound.

“Bird Song” represents the first of several upcoming singles from John Hubcap, who show excellently here.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2022’ Spotify playlist.
