“Mr. Strange” is a new track from Jenn Vix, a Rhode Island-based artist whose pop sound finds haunting entrancement in vocal intrigue and chilly synth arpeggios. Since her 1995 self-titled debut album, which earned praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, Jenn Vix has crafted a compelling sound with dreamy mystique. Her recent material, consisting of singles and EPs, continues strong.
“Mr. Strange is an Indie Pop/Trap banger, about a woman who has a lot of fun with a male blow-up doll,” Vix says. “You can leave the rest up to your imagination.”
Certainly fits for the Halloween season with its eerie synth-forward development and vocal yearning, “Mr. Strange” embraces idiosyncrasy and self-empowerment in its thematic focus. Hints of guitar emerge at points like past the two-minute mark, with a dark distorted envelopment, though largely the track excels on Vix’s spirited vocal delivery and the prancing key-laden eeriness. “Mr. Strange” is another stellar addition to Vix’s impressive discography.
