Finnish Postcard – “Highway” / “Polluted Water”

/

Los Angeles-based act Finnish Postcard make a stellar first impression with two new singles, showcasing a serenely impactful rock sound with ample yearning. “Highway” and “Polluted Water” impress with different personalities; “Highway” touts a lushly hypnotic pull, while “Polluted Water” casts a more rock-forward feeling.

Described as a “song about the sweetness of denial,” “Highway” drives pleasantly on lush guitar twangs and subdued vocals. A warming transition around the two-minute mark meshes plucky guitars with a backing layering, parts Sufjan Stevens and Real Estate. The ghostly backing vocals and twangy guitars craft an ethereal charm throughout.

The vibrant “Polluted Water” enamors with twinkling guitars and piano additions, pushing forward with a dynamic rock sound, at points showing shades of Modest Mouse. The “living on a memory,” chorus produces a replay-inducing effect with the sharp guitar twangs and vocal yearning. These two tracks show Finnish Postcard as an act to surely pay attention to.

“Highway” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2022’ Spotify playlist.
