A single out today from EVNTYD, “Hard On Us,” captivates with its melodic guitar twangs and lush vocals. “If you wanna see me slow down, watch me take my time,” Julián sings, his serene lead intermingling with guitar tones in the post-punk and dream-pop veins. A murky bridge, approaching the two-minute turn, invigorates with a nocturnal spirit — reminding of early Interpol.
“Hard on Us” is a hypnotic guitar-driven trek that represents another memorable 2022 single from EVNTYD, the Austin-based project of Julián Berdegué, impressing prior with the tracks “Parisian Fur” and “Thinking Of You.”
Julián says the following about the new track:
“I wrote “Hard On Us” to openly acknowledge that I can be a little too hard on myself and those I surround myself with. My expectations for what I and others can accomplish are sky high, and I’m well aware that that level of intensity doesn’t suit everyone. The last thing I want is for my friends to feel like they too need to have lofty aspirations in order to meet some criteria of mine.”
“One of the first drafts of this song ended up in one of my earliest videos on TikTok. Seeing people’s positive reactions and comments made me double down and flesh out the rest of the song in the week that followed.”
