Helsinki-based five-piece Pastis impress with an infectious rock sound throughout their new single “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The second single from the band’s upcoming sophomore album (out later this year), “It’s a Wonderful Life” is described as “a bittersweet love story,” influenced by films like its namesake and Pretty Woman.
Opening lyrics, yearning for Vivi amidst a backing organ and twangy guitars, leads into a roaring guitar-fronted progression. Suave vocals and acoustical shimmers adorn the engaging verses, the lyrics literally and figuratively mentioning “setting the mood,” as the guitar-laden intensity rises. The final minute is a melodic spectacle; an enveloping back organ corresponds with enthusiastic guitar lines, as hooky vocals ease in sporadically. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is an enthused, melodic rock success from Pastis.
