Building from eerie intrigue into a haunting hook, “We Are Dust” is a rousing rocker from Oslo-based band Monalia. The band’s penchant for the dark and dreamy continues here; the initial foray into post-punk murkiness expands feverishly into a chorus with spine-chilling vigor. “Whatcha gonna do to me now?” the vocals ask during this section, the twangy guitar adornments adding wonderfully to the vocals’ eerie captivation. The title-touting refrain leads into spoken-word fervor in the second half, another atmospheric addition that plays excellently. “We Are Dust” is another surefire success from Monalia.
The band first caught our ears in 2019 with the track “Drank the Rain.”
