atrem – “Far Dawn”

/

“Far Dawn” is a dreamy, beautiful success from Japanese project atrem, comprising Ryuichi Shima and Yusuke Kamimura. Taking inspiration from the world of The Aosawa Murders, a psychological thriller by novelist Riku Onda, the track tells “a story of encounter, longing, farewell, and a new beginning.” Gently fluttering guitars and a warming bass line exude a comforting glow, as the gradual accompaniment of strings and additional guitars construct a climactic allure reminiscent of Radiohead, circa In Rainbows. Shima’s vocals emerge tranquilly thereafter, the push of strings just past the two-minute mark adding a weightlessly captivating quality. The vocals intensify in the following minute, driving to a striking conclusion that sends chills. “Far Dawn” is a stirring success from atrem.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream Pop.
