A memorable rocker from The Voxes‘ debut album, Closer Than Ever, “Peak” excels with its melding of garage-rock and post-punk. Based out of the San Fernando Valley, The Voxes impress with their hook-filled rock sound. “Peak” features a thumping bass and reflective percussive pulse to start, the suave vocals rising alongside as the post-punk guitar tones emerge. Glistening guitars during the chorus join with yearning vocals for a lovely melodic pull, the thumping bass leading ushering seamlessly into the initial verses thereafter.
“Hard to Say” is another stellar track from the album, more shimmering and synth-touched than “Peak.” “Hard to Say” shines with its bidding-farewell chorus, the bridge approaching the three-minute mark succeeding with intensifying percussion and soaring guitar tones. “Peak” and “Hard to Say” both differ considerably in tone, though share a tendency for naturally memorable hooks and excellent production.
