David Alter – “Who I Am”

/

“Who I Am” is a rousing folk track from David Alter, who impressed a few months ago with the rocker “So Says the Man,” also via his satirical musical, Resurrection: The Musical. The release shows a variety of styles beyond the rock spectrum too, with “Who I Am” and “People” showing a folk-friendly charm throughout. “Who I Am” finds David Steele’s vocals meshing melodically with spirited guitars and backing bird-chirping. Lyrically, within the musical’s story, the track captures “an introspective moment early in JC’s existential journey.” The lyrics — “here I still believe, call me hopelessly naïve, that in time I’ll understand just who I am,” — exude a confidence that plays great alongside the vibrant guitars and percussive stomps.

“Who I Am” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2021’ Spotify playlist.
