“Vicky Dreams” is a delectably eerie track from Miami-based artist Rolko, releasing ahead of upcoming debut album Hidden Hotel Rooms. Wordless vocal haunts and a nocturnal synth arpeggio craft an intriguing sound from the get-go, the vocals emerging alongside bass/drum fixations prior to the chilling synth involvement. The synth fragments and retrospective lyrics — speaking of going to a “higher place,” — excel past the mid-section especially, with the three-minute mark seeing atmospheric emphasis that reminds fondly of Depeche Mode’s production. “Vicky Dreams” conjures a decisively memorable soundscape and sense of eeriness throughout.
Rolko explains further about the track’s background below:
“‘Vicky Dreams’ lyrics and aesthetics were inspired by a trip to Peru back in 2015 which took me down a rabbit hole of experiences into the shamanic world of ritual medicines. At the time I was searching for meaning and soulful answers while being alluded to cyberpunk novels and movies. Vicky is a fictional character encountering a spiritual map and an awakening into her troubled subconscious mind.”
