“Bugs” is a soaring success from Jane Astronaut, the project of songwriter Billy Azurdia. The Inglewood-based artist shows a stirring sound with commendable tonal shifts, from spacious synth-laden moments to roaring guitar bursts. The prickly synth backing lends to a psych-friendly, hypnotic feeling throughout, added nicely by an eclectic range of guitars, such as the rising force around 01:30. The track was recorded partially in Azurdia’s childhood bedroom and partially at a warehouse in Long Beach, CA. The aesthetic and melodic components are strong throughout.
Azurdia describes the track as a “the culmination of emotions from an intense period in my life. ‘Bugs’ is a dark night of the soul translated into tones and words.”
