The Amber Bugs – “Rat Vs Mole”

/

Featuring a stylistically eclectic rock sound full of twists, “Rat Vs Mole” is a burst of energy from London-based quintet The Amber Bugs. The vocals relay an excitement prevalent in ska and punk. Aesthetically invigorating, swift guitars mesh with Arabian-inspired strings. The “he’s coming for you,” rise — with accompanying brass and ensuing lushness — makes for a fully engrossing moment. A flash of chamber-pop past the two-minute mark shows flourishing strings and a more understated vocal lead, offering up a fully satiable twist prior to the rock-based energy’s re-emergence. The track as a whole consumes throughout, with a creative and enjoyably unbridled sound. I’m excited to hear what’s next from The Amber Bugs.

“Rat Vs Mole” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
