Denni Ian – “Killer Whales”

/

A highlight from Denni Ian‘s consuming new album The Sad Saint of South End, “Killer Whales” impresses with its serenely unfolding sound. Gently pulsing keys provide a lovely accompaniment to the stirring, deeper-toned vocal lead, which remind fondly of Matt Berninger, Nick Cave, and others with a solemnly unique voice. A catching textural backing around 01:18, with a psych-friendly lingering, impresses — as does the effervescent subtlety around 02:20. Showing a subtly unveiling soundscape that engrosses, “Killer Whales” is a stellar showing from Denni Ian, whose new album The Sad Saint of South End is certainly recommended; the Danish singer/songwriter and visual artist shows well throughout.

“Killer Whales” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2020’ Spotify playlist.
